BALFOUR, N.D. – Authorities in McHenry County arrested two people early Monday morning following a lengthy search that involved Minot’s SWAT team.
According to criminal records filed in district court Monday, investigators say that State Radio informed a McHenry County Deputy that a person was following a vehicle that had tried to steal his gun safe Sunday night.
The deputy tracked down the empty vehicle in a field, but as the officer searched for the occupants, an eyewitness reported seeing two people exit a shed, enter the car and drive off, hitting speeds as high 90 miles per hour on a gravel road.
Authorities responded to reports of a suspicious man asking for rides from people in Balfour. Officers learned that a resident there had let the man and a woman in from the cold but told them they had to leave soon.
Officers responded to the home and took the 41-year-old man and 23 year old woman into custody for burglary, theft from building, criminal trespass, and disorderly conduct.
They remain in custody in Pierce County and have yet to appear in court on the charges.
The Minot SWAT Team assisted in the arrest.
