MINOT, N.D.- The crew members that spent the past few months installing turf at Corbett Field were the first ballplayers to test it out.
“The turf conversation was going on for a few years and with the support of the City of Minot, the Park District, we were able to get the project going,” said Jarrod Olson, Minot Parks Department Operations Director.
The field is not the only new addition to the ballpark next year. The Souris Valley Sabre Dogs move into town as the newest member of the wood bat Expedition League.
“When I came here for this job, I looked at this field and could definitely get excited about it, even when it was going through all the renovations with the turf. And now that the turf is in, it is gorgeous,” said Savannah Young, Sabre Dogs Assistant General Manager.
The Minot Park District and the Sabre Dogs plan on working together to promote new family attractions to the ballpark.
“We're going to have a party deck here, we're going to have a kids zone here. There's going to be a lot of beer and wine, the best parts of summer. And we're going to bring other activities to the ballpark, making it a Minot league feel,” Young said.
Fans will have to wait until May 25 for the Sabre Dog's first game, but for now, they can still enjoy the only place in town where the grass will stay green.
