Secretary of State Al Jaeger is one step closer to getting his name on the November ballot.
Jaeger submitted 69 petitions with more than 1,300 signatures, 300 more than the required amount.
Jaeger lost the Republican endorsement at the GOP state convention in April to Will Gardner. Gardner dropped out of the race in June after a 2006 peeping incident became public.
Gardner later pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct related to the incident.
If all the signatures are approved, Jaeger will be listed on the ballot as an independent candidate.
