BISMARCK, N.D. - Earlier this summer, preliminary results showed pheasant numbers might be down this hunting season, and those estimates were correct.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department says its roadside survey shows total birds and numbers of broods are down statewide from last year.
Total pheasants observed were down 61 percent and brood observations were down 63 percent.
The results are taken from 103 brood routes across North Dakota. The regular season pheasant season opens Oct. 7.
