BELFIELD, N.D. - The North Dakota Department of Health is estimating that more than 176,000 gallons of crude oil leaked from a Belle Fourche-operated pipeline last week near Belfield, N.D.

Of that leak about 130,000 gallons of oil flowed into Ash Coulee Creek.

State environmental scientist Bill Suess says the oil has migrated more than five miles from the spill site, but it appears it did not reach the Little Missouri River or affect any drinking water sources.

He says about 37,000 gallons of oil has been recovered.
