BISMARCK, N.D. - Miss America Cara Mund kicked off her birthday weekend by visiting kids at Sanford Children's Hospital in Bismarck.

The visit comes on what was going to be a day off, but she says she wanted to do something special. She colored and sang with the kids and even had some cupcakes with them as well. Today is also the 10-year anniversary of Mund's childhood friend Amber passing away from leukemia.

“I wanted to be right here in Amber's Dream. She was the one that kind of inspired my work with the Make-A-Wish foundation. She's the one who now has that legacy that going to last forever here at Sanford Children's,” said Mund.

Mund will be at Kirkwood Mall Saturday, Dec. 9 starting at 10 a.m. for an autograph signing.
