BISMARCK, N.D. - A 23-year-old Minot man, who struck a plea deal earlier this year for his role in a teen’s drug overdose death, is now appealing his conviction to the North Dakota State Supreme Court.
Aaron Bruce pleaded guilty in March to negligent homicide in the July 2015 death of 19-year-old Aidan Vanderhoef.
Investigators said that Bruce supplied Vanderhoef with the drugs and then failed to get him medical attention when he overdosed.
The deal called for Bruce to serve five years, but at sentencing Vanderhoef's father criticized the deal as too lenient.
Court records indicate that Bruce filed for appeal in June.
The supreme court will hear the appeal next month.
