MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A legislator from Minot wants to place a tax on wind power.

Rep. Roscoe Streyle, R-Minot, says the tax breaks going to wind generation right now are affecting the coal industry.

The bill would tax wind plants a $1.50 per megawatt-hour.

The majority of the generated revenue from the extra tax would be directed to the state's general fund.

Forty percent of the $1.50 per megawatt-hour would go back to the county or counties in which the wind farm is located.
