Minot, N.D. A Minot attorney has earned a unique honor--he's the new president of the North Dakota State Bar Association.
Charles DeMakis just took over as president of the state bar.
DeMakis, who runs his own practice in Minot, grew up in Minot and went to Minot High School. He then attended the University of North Dakota for his undergrad and stayed there for law school.
DeMakis joined the Board of Governors for the state bar in 2011. The Board of Governors named him president-elect last summer.
It's only a one-year term, but DeMakis said he's honored for the opportunity.
“I'm pretty excited. There haven't been a lot of bar presidents from Minot, so it's nice to be able to serve in that capacity, and to call Minot home. I'm looking forward to a good year, and hopefully I serve Minot well and the bar association well,” he said.
DeMakis said he loves to do two great North Dakota traditions in his spare time--hunt and fish.
Darcie Einarson of out Grafton is serving as the board's president-elect, and will take over leadership of the bar from DeMakis next June.
