Minot State student finds passion for motivational speaking

MINOT, N.D. - A Minot State University senior has overcome many life challenges to find his true calling.

Football star Ryan Fila has found a passion for inspiring others and changing lives through public speaking. His online videos focus on "being the best you."

Fila said, "My main goal in life is really to make the world a better place. I don't just say that to say that, like that is really my plan, that's really what I want to do. But I have to have messages I have to have things to say to make that happen"

Life is good now for Fila, but it wasn't always that way.

"Lived in a trailer park,” said Fila. “Lived around a lot of things that could have changed and became who I was. A lot of drugs and a lot of, you know, all that nonsense everyone likes to talk about."

Two years ago Fila lost his father. Giving the eulogy at the funeral lit a fire under him, and he knew what he wanted to do with his life.

"When you hear me speak I don't want you to say that I am a good speaker,” Fila said. “I want you to walk out and be different. I want you to really take what I say and take it into your own life and change yourself. Because it's not about me, it's not about, 'oh he's a good speaker if you heard him,' it's about what am I doing for you."

Fila will give a speech to his fellow students at the Beaver Dam on the MSU campus on March 6 at 7 p.m.

He will talk about his college journey and offer advice for anyone who has lived through similar struggles.
