Minot Red Cross volunteers head to California for wildfire relief efforts

MINOT, N.D. - A Minot couple who volunteers for the Red Cross are headed to the west coast to aid in relief efforts for the wildfires.

Carol and Allen Becker left Minot Friday morning. They learned of their deployment Thursday night.

They will head to Fargo to pick up a Red Cross emergency vehicle, before beginning the nearly 1700-mile trip to Mather, Calif.

The Beckers will spend two weeks in California delivering food and water to people displaced by the fires.

“I feel it's what we were called to do, so we need to do it to help these people get back on their feet. Cause it sounds like to me there's a lot of homes and some people are without power, too,” said Allen.

This the Beckers' fourth Red Cross relief trip in the past 14 months.
