Minot Public Schools addressing smoke and student safety

The superintendent of the Minot Public Schools says the district has discussed with state health officials how to approach student health and the smoke from the western wildfires.

Mark Vollmer says the district followed recommendation from the Director of Environmental Health Wednesday to keep students with asthma, allergies, or other breathing conditions indoors. The district advised principals to comply with any parents who requested that their students stay indoors.

Vollmer said the district will continue to monitor air quality in school buildings, and will work with the health department on whether to change protocol.
