WATFORD CITY, N.D. - McKenzie County residents looking for general surgery soon won't have to travel far.
The McKenzie County Healthcare Systems began work on its new hospital in Watford City. The current hospital is 60 years old.
The new location is expected to house a hospital, a clinic and a nursing home. The facility is expected to add new services like orthopedics and obstetric services. It will also add more rooms and beds to each of the facilities.
The project will cost $76 million. A majority of the funds will come from a loan from the U-S-D-A. The remaining money will come from the Bank of North Dakota and local donations.
"This has been a long time coming. We have had to go through several processes to secure out loans and those types of things. The fact that it is happening is very exciting. I think that the people are now very much on the same page that we are getting a new facility," said McKenzie County Healthcare Systems CEO Daniel Kelly.
The new location is expected to open in August of 2018.
