MANDAN, N.D. - The Mandan City Commission Monday voted down a proposal that would have allowed men's transitional housing next to a daycare center.
The North Dakota Adult and Teen challenge proposed to use part of its building as transitional housing for men getting out of jail or prison.
The house is located on the corner of 2nd Street and 13th Avenue North West, which is connected to a Child's Garden Day Care.
More than thirty people that showed up to voice their opinion on the use of this building.
"This homelessness thing is not a joke. This homeless thing is not something that doesn't affect everyone in this room that we need to care about. That's the issue in front of you," said Dan Ulmer, Mandan resident.
"I'm a little concerned what kind of people are going to be moving in there, what they're state of mind is, what they've been in trouble for," said Amanda Beers, concerned mom.
The commission unanimously rejected the proposal.
