BISMARCK, N.D. - Authorities are investigating recent overdoses and suspected overdoses in the Bismarck-Mandan area.
Mandan Deputy Chief Paul Leingang says they've had at least five overdoses since Christmas. Leingang says they believe one of these was fatal.
Bismarck Police says since the holidays they've had several suspected overdoses. Narcotics Investigator Jerry Stein says these cases can be very difficult to investigate.
"By the time law enforcement gets involved in an opiate, it's going to be the end user - the person who buys a tenth of a gram from somebody who bought 10 grams earlier in the day, from somebody who bought, you know, an ounce later on and up the chain and up the chain, and we have to follow those leads back," says Stein.
Stein says typically they see more overdoses when a drug is laced or tainted with another substance.
