MANDAN, N.D.- Changes to the Law Enforcement Center in Morton County are coming.
Morton County board commissioners have approved a space needs study, meaning an architect will assess the center and let them know what is best for the structure of the building.
The center has been operating since the 1980s, and with the new Burleigh-Morton Detention Center opening up, it left the center with an abandoned second floor.
Morton County Sheriff Kyle Kirchmeier says the remodel is expected to cost more than $1 million.
"The funding for this project is already available due to the one percent sales tax that is currently funding the Burleigh-Morton jail in Burleigh County," said Kirchmeier.
Kirchemeier says the project is expected to start in October of this year.
He says it's needed because they don't have enough space for their deputies.
