Home Sweet Home property in Minot purchased for flood protection plan

MINOT, N.D. - The city of Minot has officially purchased the property on 4th Avenue Northwest that is occupied by a longtime local gift shop, meaning the owners will look elsewhere to set up business.

The Minot City Council formally approved the purchase of the land occupied by Home Sweet Home. Co-owner Linda Johnson says they are currently looking for a new facility but have not found one yet, and will continue to operate online and at trade shows.

Johnson says that Home Sweet Home will remain open through the holiday season, and they have actually seen an uptick in business, both walk-in and online.

They plan to hold a post-Christmas sale, but must be out of the home by March 1.

The 4th Avenue location was built in 1899.

The city also formally purchased property occupied by the Open Gate Church, just down the street from Home Sweet Home.
