WATFORD CITY, N.D. - Gov. Jack Dalrymple has granted the McKenzie County Commission's request to remove Sheriff Gary Schwartzenberger from his post.

An independent investigation found cases of workplace bullying and retaliation in the McKenzie County Sheriff's department.

It led to the commission asking the acting State's Attorney to petition the Governor's office for his removal last month.

A special commissioner will be appointed in the next 30 days to conduct a hearing for a final decision. In the meantime, Schwartzenberger will be suspended.
