MANDAN, N.D. - Mandan Police Deputy Chief Paul Leingang was recently diagnosed with stage four cancer.

The department says the community has been so supportive of Leingang and recently, a nationally recognized team is helping his fight.

The Harlem Globetrotters will play for basketball fans across the state at the Bismarck Event Center April 25.

Now, people can purchase discounted tickets to the event and support Leingang's fight against cancer.

Three dollars of every discounted ticket sold will go toward Leingang's battle.

The discount is up to $7 per ticket.

Leingang coached basketball in Mandan, and one of his former players contacted the Globetrotters.

People interested in the promotion can purchase them on the Globetrotters website and use promo code Paul.

"Paul has dedicated many years of his life to the citizens of Mandan as a police officer so you know I think it's great the kind of outreach that we have we've gotten from the community to help him with his medical expenses," said Mandan Police Department Lt. Pat Haug and Globetrotters Support deputy chief.

A benefit breakfast and silent auction will take place on March 26 at the Mandan Eagles Club to support Paul and his family. It starts at 9 a.m. and will go until 2 p.m.
