Fight to remove man camps from Williston city limits continues

WILLISTON, N.D. - The fight to remove man camps from the Williston city limits continues.

August 9, the city commission approved the first reading of ordinance 1050.

The proposal calls for man camps within city limits to close by September 1. Camp operators will be allowed to keep their facilities onsite until May 2018, and the land must be reclaimed by August of that year.

The city's first attempt to drive out crew camps failed in June. A federal judge ruled the city needed four votes to pass the ordinance, rather than the three it received.

A second reading of the ordinance must be approved by the commission for it to take effect. It is scheduled for the meeting on August 23.
