Felony charges filed in Towner County animal abuse case

CANDO, N.D. – Prosecutors have filed felony charges against a Cando man in connection with an animal cruelty investigation in Towner County in May.

Investigators say that 18-year-old Alec Miller broke into the Sky Can Ltd. facility on May 16 and stole two genetically-engineered pigs.

They say Miller chased one of the pigs into a bonfire.

Miller faces felony charges of burglary and animal cruelty, along with a misdemeanor charge of theft of property.

He will be back in court Oct. 31 and could face up to five years in prison if convicted on the C felony charges.

In March Miller pleaded guilty to an unrelated misdemeanor charge of harassing wildlife.
