Families displaced after Saturday night fire near Bismarck Expressway

BISMARCK, ND - At 8:49 pm Saturday, the Bismarck Fire Department responded to an apartment fire on the 1000 block of Portland Drive, near Bismarck Expressway.

Firefighters contained the fire to a single first floor unit.

All occupants of the building were rescued and only one person was hospitalized. Three people were in the unit at the time of the fire.

Several families were displaced by the fire but most are expected to move back in over the next few days.

Preliminary estimates for damages exceed $ 30,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Red Cross has provided temporary housing assistance to the displaced families.
