MINOT N.D. - Ward County Commissioners signed an agreement with the state department of emergency services to use a FEMA grant for flood protection for Rice Lake Tuesday.
HDR engineering informed the Ward County commissioners Tuesday morning that FEMA awarded the community with a $980,000 grant for flood protection.
The money would go to relocating seven homes and raising two homes. A remaining roughly $300,000 will be required to move or raise the homes, in which homeowners must pay, but homeowners are waiting now on engineers to review cost estimates of the work.
Work wouldn't likely begin until next year.
