Earth Week at Kalix Recycling

MINOT, N.D. - Kalix recycling CEO Borgi Beeler says Earth Day is a great way to recognize the importance of our planet.

"There are a lot of reasons people have for recycling. One is to save landfill space. Another is to save energy in new products. A big thing I think is to just you know not throw a bunch of plastic in the landfill," said Beeler.

In honor of Earth Day, Kalix is giving double the tokens this week as incentives for people to recycle.

"The token program is a program we have set up with business in the community where they will be a sponsor. We pay tokens and then the tokens can then be turned into, we have a bank, and they can turn those in as cash," said Rod Martinson, vocational director at Kalix.

Kalix not only takes the usual plastic, paper, and aluminum, but they also take e-waste.

"Electronic items have metals and other elements in them that can leach out and be toxic. So it is really important to keep electronics out of the landfill," said Beeler.
