“Doc Talk” focuses on breast cancer awareness

As breast cancer awareness month continues, Sanford is bringing community members up to date on where the medical community is with treatment of the disease.

Thursday night, Dr. Pete Kurniali spoke about the different types of breast cancer and all different types of treatment. That includes surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy and more. He says techniques have improved tremendously in the last 30 years.

"We are continuing to work at this point to get a more efficient treatment, a better treatment to prolong life to those who have the cancer that has spread,” Kurniali said.

Kurniali says getting a mammogram every year starting at age 40 is the easiest way to catch breast cancer.
