Dickinson schools will need rezoning for Berg Elementary

DICKINSON, N.D. - In January, Dickinson Public Schools announced that P.S. Berg would become a new elementary school. Now they have to redraw the district to get students there.

The district will open Berg for the 2018-2019 school year as a kindergarten through fourth grade school. Then they will expand it to fifth grade for the 2019-2020 year. The redistricting will take pressure off the other five elementary schools, according to the superintendent.

“With our current population and our projected population, we're going to be a lot closer to 90 percent full next year. We know that we have a little bit of flexibility, a little bit of capacity,” said Superintendent Douglas Sullivan.

Sullivan added that the board has talked about expanding in three to four years if numbers continue to rise. There were more than 1,900 kids enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade this school year.
