BISMARCK, N.D. - The Dakota Access Pipeline begins interstate service, pumping crude oil from the Bakken to Illinois.

Energy Transfer Partners informed the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in April it planned to be operational by Sunday.

An ETP spokeswoman says the company was able to stick to that schedule.

The construction of the nearly 1,200 mile, $4 billion pipeline resulted in massive protests in southern Morton County, which were unsuccessful in preventing the pipeline's construction and operation.
