BISMARCK, N.D. - Of all the dangers that could be caused by severe thunderstorms, losing your furry friend is one of them.
The Bismarck Animal Control Unit says they've seen an increase of pets during thunderstorms. But there are ways to keep your pet calm and safe during storms.
"Instead of leaving your dog outside for extended periods of time and stuff, the thunder and lightning scares them just like it does people. So, what we would recommend you do is let them out and then bring them back in and secure them in the house or in the garage," said Ed Woodcock, animal control officer.
Woodcock also says turning on the radio or TV will help keep drown out the thunder, which will keep them calm as well.
