BISMARCK, N.D. - A new Homeland Security director and adviser for North Dakota has been appointed.

Gov. Doug Burgum announced Friday that Cody Schulz will take on the role starting March 1.

Schulz has served as disaster recovery chief for the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services since July 2014. Before that, he worked as the department's business manager and hazard mitigation grant specialist.

Schulz will take the place of Greg Wilz, who is retiring after more than 12 years in the position.
