Members of the animal ordinance committee passed a recommendation to end the BSL or breed specific legislation in the city of Minot.
BSL, prohibits keeping dogs of specific breeds, which in most cases are pit bulls. The committee also proposed another recommendation that would take a deeper look into banning vicious animals, which includes all animals not just dogs. Members say the biggest concern is keeping the public safe.
“How can we more effectively deal with a vicious animal? How can we protect people from a vicious animal? How do we keep people safe isn't that what animal ordinance is there for?” said Marshal Platz, committee member.
The recommendation will go to the full city council for review.
The committee will continue this discussion at their next meeting Monday Nov. 27th.
