Child sexual abuse trial begins in Bottineau

BOTTINEAU, N.D. – Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a Bottineau man accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a girl over the course of three years.

Thirty-one-year-old Heath Vivier faces a AA-felony charge of continuous sexual abuse of a child.

According to a criminal information filed with the court, prosecutors say Vivier, who was 29 years old at the time, engaged in sexual contact with the girl, who was under the age of fifteen, ‘once or twice a week every other week over a period of approximately three years.’

The trial is scheduled to run through the week. Vivier faces the chance of life in prison if convicted.
