Cerna-Carrillo changes plea to guilty in Williston murder case

A man in Williston charged with murder and other felony counts has changed his plea to guilty.

Monday afternoon, Tovias Cerna-Carrillo pleaded guilty to five felony counts in Northwest District Court.

The prosecutor recommended Cerna-Carrillo be sentenced to 30 years on the murder charge with 11 suspended.

Carrillo pleaded guilty to fatally shooting Juan Palacios in January of 2014. His body was found east of Williston under a mattress a few days later.

Cerna-Carillo will also serve time for two counts of terrorizing, tampering with evidence and aggravated assault.

Pre-sentencing investigation has been ordered and the sentencing date will be scheduled after the investigation.
