Boating safety tips for summer

MINOT, N.D. - With temperatures heating up, a lot of people are heading out to the lake for outdoor activities.

However, the Minot Fire Department is stressing the importance of being safe while having fun.

They suggest to not overload the boats with weight so the boat does not sink. Also, always drive slowly and carefully with other boaters in the area.

And, they also stressed the importance of wearing a life-jacket.

“If you're on a jet ski and you have a life jacket you're more likely to stay on the surface. If you don't have one, if you fall off you have a good chance of being disoriented and you might not come up fast enough to get air and get overcome,” said Sean Snorek, Minot Fire Department.

Snorek says that you should also inform someone where you are going, and when you are going to be back.
