BISMARCK, N.D. - Bismarck had it's first Comic Con where hundreds of fanatics dressed up as their favorite characters.
From Halo to Star Wars, and every geeky thing in between people were flocking to Juke Joint Comics to celebrate comic book day by picking up free comic books.
"It's fun to be around people that like comics too, you know, it's like a big family," said Tyler Rietz, Mandan.
That was, however, only the beginning for the nerdy-minded. Just a few blocks away at the library was the first annual Bismarck Comic Con.
"So many people want to go to San Diego Comic Con, but it's just not feasible for them. Tickets sell out so fast, and it's so expensive, so we kind of wanted to bring a little mini taste of Comic Con to Bismarck, North Dakota. So many people here are interested in all of these different fandoms, but it's so hard to connect with other people," said Laura Ryzavy, Teen Programming Coordinator, Bismarck Library.
A Comic Con is a convention where people get together to celebrate some of their favorite shows, movies, books, and comic book series'. Many will even dress up as some of their favorite characters.
"I spent so much time building this, and it's fun to have other people see it, and enjoy it," said Rietz.
These elaborate costumes can be seen much more often then just at comic cons, some fans donate their time and costumed selves to causes throughout the year.
"I like charity work, and working with kids, and volunteering my time. I'm a fan of Star Wars myself. I wish I had the opportunity to meet life-size action figures," said Ben Buchmiller, a member of the Mandalorian Mercs.
The event included trivia that fans of all ages and genres could get. There were many games and a costume contest.
Comic Con blew up on social media and organizers almost couldn't keep up with the amount of people that flooded the library for the event.
