Bismarck Police warn of scammer impersonating an officer

Bismarck Police are warning the public about numerous reports relating to someone impersonating an officer in a scam attempt.

In a press release, authorities state that a male, who claims to be either "Sgt. Brian Andrews" or "Sgt. Kevin Price" with the Burleigh County Sheriff’s Office or the Bismarck Police Department, has been calling people to tell them they have outstanding warrants for their arrest. The suspect claims the warrants relate to failure to appear for a Grand Jury trial.

The suspect then provides 2 options: Get arrested or purchase prepaid cards to pay for the warrants over the phone.

Residents have informed police that, when they choose not to pay, the suspect threatens that a deputy is en-route to their house to arrest them.

The suspect is described as in his 20's or 30's with no distinct accent, and professional sounding over the phone.

Police insist that, if anyone receives calls demanding money to pay for warrants, that they do not pay it and, instead, contact authorities.
