BISMARCK, N.D. - Starting Feb. 12, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health will host breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers.

The classes will be twice on Mondays and Saturdays, teaching the benefits to breastfeeding for babies and moms.

A new 30-year study shows breastfeeding for six months lowers the mom's risk of developing type 2 diabetes by nearly 50 percent.

“Our breastfeeding rate at six months is lower than we'd like it to be. And so again, in order to help moms be successful at breast feeding, we're hoping that we can provide this additional support,” said Jessica Linneman, Certified Lactation Consultant.

The CDC says the state's rate for breastfeeding at six months is 55 percent. For more information on the classes, go to http://www.bismarcknd.gov/357/Maternal-Child-Wellness.
