Bismarck Police Officer involved in shooting Sunday Morning

BISMARCK Bismarck police say one of their officers was involved in a shooting Sunday morning.

The officer was responding to an unrelated call at the Bismarck Motor Motel when he was attacked by an unidentified person. The suspect began punching the officer in the head and gouging his eyes. After fighting back and using a tazer police say the officer shot the suspect in the abdomen to stop the attack.

The suspect has not been identified and is undergoing surgery in a local hospital. The officer was taken to a hospital as well and has been discharged.

Bismarck police say the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, pending an investigation.
