App uses GPS to detect police 'traps' on your route

BISMARCK, N.D. - The Waze App is an app that helps people avoid traps while driving, like construction or police officers.

The app is used as a GPS, showing you the upcoming "traps" on the route. It's used in bigger cities, but here in Bismarck it's not really known yet.

The Bismarck Police Department says there's still dangers to using an app like this while driving.

"Still, the biggest danger though is going to be operating this while you're driving. It's certainly going to be illegal to type something into this phone while you're in motion, and it's probably going to be not legal either under our law to be reading something off your cell phone while it's in motion," said Sgt. Mark Buschena, Bismarck Police Department.

The Bismarck Police Department encourages people to pull over and use your cell phone if it's needed.
