BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - The Bureau of Land Management has canceled 15 oil and gas leases in the Badger-Two Medicine area in northwestern Montana.

The cancellations address outstanding concerns about the potential for oil and gas development in a culturally and ecologically important area.

The 130,000 acre area is near Glacier National Park, the Bob Marshall Wilderness and the Blackfeet Indian Reservation, and it is considered sacred by the Blackfeet Tribe and is part of a recognized Traditional Cultural District.

Congress withdrew the area from mineral development in 2006.
