Tournament History 
At NBC North Dakota Sports, we take great pride in being your Sports Leader. For over two decades, we have provided our viewers with exclusive statewide coverage of North Dakota’s biggest sporting events, the state high school hockey and basketball tournaments. These LIVE telecasts air on our powerhouse network of stations in North Dakota, including KFYR-TV in Bismarck, KMOT-TV in Minot, KUMV-TV in Williston, KQCD-TV in Dickinson and KVLY-TV in Fargo and Grand Forks.
Our technology allows us to bring you the sights and sounds from every major city in North Dakota. We own a LIVE mobile production truck loaded with broadcast equipment capable of providing seven camera angles, replay, animation and special effects. During a telecast, this LIVE truck is staffed by seven individuals, including the producer, director, technical director, replay operator, an audio tech and two graphics and animation operators, along with multiple engineers. Inside the arena, nearly 20 people work behind-the-scenes to complete the telecast, including photographers, floor producers, grips and on-air talent.
As you can see, we are committed in bringing our viewers in every corner in the state the finest in high school tournament action, year after year. We hope you enjoy this year’s coverage of the State Hockey Tournament from Grand Forks, the Boy’s State “B” from Minot, the Super “A” from Fargo and the Girl’s State “B” from Minot.
Meet the Announcer Team
Lee Timmerman
While growing up in Tea, South Dakota, my vision in life was to follow my father's footsteps and become a farmer. In the late 70's & early 80's interest rates were 20% or higher so my vision needed to change. Today, I'm the Sports Director for KFYR-TV, a position I've enjoyed since the retirement of Rog Higgins in 1989. I'm also the play-by-play announcer for LIVE, statewide high school sporting events, NBC North Dakota Sports televises exclusively each year.
Recently, I was awarded the prestigious National Sportscasters & Sportswriters Association's Powerade Award for the National Broadcast Story of the Year, for a four-part series I did on North Dakota's vote to add a third class of high school basketball. This national honor is something I cherish because the National Print Story of the Year winner was Gary Smith of Sports Illustrated, so to be in that company is special.
I've been blessed with many additional accolades throughout my career. I've been chosen by my peers as the North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year three times, I was named Sportscaster of the Year by the North Dakota Broadcasters Association twice, plus I was honored with the N.B.N.A. Eric Sevareid Award for sports play-by-play multiple times. And in 2002, I received an once-in-a-lifetime "Award of Merit" from the North Dakota High School Coaches Association.
My wife Amber and I moved to Bismarck in 1989. I'm a graduate of Lennox, South Dakota High School and Southwest State University in Marshall, Minnesota, with a B.S. in Speech Communications/Radio-TV.
My hobbies include fishing and golfing.
Jon Cole
Veteran sports anchor of KUMV-TV. Voted by his colleagues as the North Dakota Sportscaster of the Year in 1983, 1998, 2003, 2006 and AGAIN in 2007.
In January of 2005, Jon was named the winner of the Western Star Award given by the city of Williston. The award is given to a resident for past achievements, honors, and awards.
In June 2001 he was named the winner of the Award of Merit from the North Dakota Coaches’ Association. In May of 1995 he received a Distinguished Service Award from the Williston Education Association.
Cole is a 1976 graduate of Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School in Rehoboth, Massachusetts, and an Honor Graduate of C.W. Post College in Greenvale, NY, with a BA in Communications.

Scott Westerberg
Born and raised an Iowan, I now call North Dakota home. After spending a little over a year working for KWWL-TV in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, I'm ready to explore all that North Dakota has to offer.
I'm a 2006 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa. While there, I spent time anchoring and reporting news and sports for the campus news station. After college I joined the staff at KWWL where I worked with both news and sports.
That set me up perfectly for my job as a sports and news reporter here at KFYR-TV.
When I'm away from work, I enjoy checking up on the UNI Panthers, watching TV, and playing basketball.
Tim O'Keefe
Tim O'Keefe is the executive vice president and chief executive officer of the UND Alumni Association and Foundation.
A 1971 graduate, he comes to UND from the Fargo branch as senior manager and president of Alerus Financial of Grand Forks. For much of his career, the former Fighting Sioux hockey player operated McDonald’s franchise locations in Bemidji, Detroit Lakes and Thief River Falls, MN. He also has been a high school teacher, coach, professional consultant, golf course developer and longtime radio and television sports commentator.
The first of many O’Keefes to graduate from UND was his grandfather Henry, who received a law degree in 1908. He and his wife, Becky, live in Grand Forks.
