"I don`t know what it is. It keeps me busy and it`s an adrenaline rush. I love the all the closes finishes we have every race we got."
Wiest races the bright yellow number 19 in the Legend`s class. The 30 year-old has only been racing in the division for six years but his accomplishments make it look like he`s been doing it his whole life.
"I won a national title in 2010, track championship at Dacotah Speedway in 2009 and 2010 I won the national race in Missouri. I`m also leading National points this year too."
Wiest chose the number 19 because that is the age he started racing. This driver loves the sport because of its difficulty.
"They`re a lot harder to drive, a lot harder to handle, takes a lot of throttle control and a lot of patience also."
When the Wishek native isn`t racing, he is milking cows. But it`s his talents behind the wheel that makes this dairy farmer one of the most respected drivers around.
"Donavin is a tough competitor, he`s just good. He`s a good sportsman about it. Anybody needs anything he always helps out. When he comes to the track, he`s happy and ready to have fun," said driver Ivan Sailer.
Every time the green flag flies, Wiest says he has to be completely in the the zone.
"Stay 100 percent focuses on what your doing and what everyone is doing. It`s like a game of chess you have to picture your next move and every body`s next move."
As for his future, Wiest sees some opportunities in other classes.
"I`d love to move into something else but it`ll be hard to give that up if I do move up to something else."
As for right now, Wiest is just fine with being one the best Legend`s racers in the nation.
Wiest`s lead over Sailer at Dacotah Speedway is 61-points.
Championship night in Mandan is August 24.
