Mystics Start Strong | Video

The Bismarck State men`s basketball team made the national tournament a year ago and had only one sophomore on the roster. That means the Mystics are expecting a lot of success this season.

BSC has won five of its first six games, and right now Coach Harris is working on getting the freshman comfortable with the system.

"Having some experience back I knew we`d be able to score the ball, and we`re doing a pretty good job of that. Being 5-1 we`re off to a good start. We`ve got some pretty good games coming up, and the thing I`m looking for now is just keep improving and getting better every game, getting the kids used to playing with each other. They`re adjusting pretty well so far,` said coach Jason Harris.

There are many advantages to having a veteran team, but one that sticks out for point guard Malik Wood is leadership.

"We know each other. We know what each other can do, so as far as knowing where we`re going to be at on the court, that works a lot. We work much harder on defense this year than we did last year. Guys talk more. We got more leaders because we have more people coming back. Last year we had just one sophomore which is pretty tough on him, so it helps a lot more that there`s more sophomores," Wood said.

Bismarck State`s next game is against Fort Berthold Community College on November 30.
