That has finally changed for U-Mary, the Men`s soccer team is now a part of the Great Northwest Conference also known as the GNAC.
"We`ve played as an independent which means you play the majority of your games on the road. This fall out of 18 games, we`ll play nine at home, seven away and two at a neutral site. So that`s the best competitive advantage related to that we`ve ever had," said head coach Dave Cook.
Cook says being in a conference has also helped draw players to the University of Mary.
"We`re more excited about our recruiting class this year more than any year except for maybe 1995 when Dave Ripley started the program and brought soccer at a collegiate level to our community and it had an impact on our community then and I think this move into the GNAC will have an especially big impact on the community."
The Marauders play twice in Fayette, Iowa before their home opener on September 7 against Rocky Mountain College.
