Size and Depth in Surrey | Video

Jacob Kaucher | 8/13/2012

Bigger is better for the Surrey Mustangs.

In a 9-man class usually dominated by speed, Surrey is a dark horse playoff contender thanks to braun and size.

The Mustangs have a lot of it, especially up front on the offensive and defensive lines.

They have so much depth that some of their lineman may play just one way keeping them fresh for a long season.

"We`re gonna wear teams down is what our philosophy is," head coach Lyall Krueger syas. "And hopefully that`s what happens - we wear teams down, pound on `em. And towards the fourth quarter we should be fresher than they are and see what happens."

"Everybody works really, really hard," adds tight end/defensive end Taylor Wallstrum. "Everybody`s been going 100 percent every day in practice and working to carry that over into games."

"You gotta be able to go all four quarters and you can`t get tired and lose it in the fourth quarter," senior guard Holden Hartley says.

The Mustangs open the season against run-heavy Drake-Anamoose on Tuesday, August 21st.
