Gaylord Playing in Pecos League

Lee Timmerman | 4/26/2012

When Travis Hafner was playing in the minor leagues he used to spend the off-season working out in Bismarck. Patrick Gaylord hopes to follow Travis` path to the majors and he`s been working out in Mandan, while living in Bismarck.

Gaylord leaves this week to play for an independent team in West Texas.

"It`s just a great opportunity, not many people get a second chance to do what they love for a living and I get to go play baseball , a kids game and I`m 26 years old and get to go play a game you can`t beat that it`s an opportunity that you have to jump on and take advantage of," he said.

Patrick`s mother is a native of Foreman, North Dakota. When his parents moved to the state a few years ago, he followed.

Gaylord is a shortstop and catcher.

He played for the University of Houston in college and professionally he was in Fargo in 2007 but injuries kept him off the field for the Redhawks.
