City of Bismarck to Change Water Disinfection Agent

| 3/12/2013

Starting next month, the City of Bismarck will be changing their water disinfection agent. The city will change from using chlorine to chloramines beginning in early April. The city says that the change is being made to improve water quality as chloramines have longer lasting disinfection properties than the chlorine that is currently used. They add that the change is also because of recent changes to Federal Safe Drinking Water regulations.

The change will affect customers in the Bismarck area as well as those served by the City of Lincoln and South Central Regional Water District. The city says that most people should notice very little difference. The biggest difference will be that some methods used to remove chlorine from water will not remove chloramines.

An informational brochure will be sent in the mail. People can also visit http://www.bismarck.org/DocumentCenter/Index/1322.
