Flood Sales Tax Passed | Video

Julie Leonardi | 3/4/2013

After some emotional debating in Monday’s city council meeting, the motion passed to add a one cent sales tax to be used for future flood protection. The new tax will be replacing an old one that ends in July 2014. The funds raised by the tax will go towards future flood protection.

With a study recently released saying there`s an 11 percent chance for another flood, it`s important to be prepared incase another one devastates Minot.

Councilman Bob Miller emotionally addressed the room. “This council needs to go on record this night and tell those people and the rest of our community that you`re not alone in this. That we will assure future generations and those yet unborn that this will not happen again.”

One member of city council voted no because he wanted to make sure the citizens of Minot were aware of this tax before council passed their motion.
