Snow Storm Closes Minot Schools | Video

Amy Fox | 3/4/2013

Minot only got five inches of snow, but it was wet and heavy enough to bring the city to a near standstill. With all of the snow and low visibility on the roadways, Minot Public Schools cancelled all classes and activities for today.

Starting around 4:00 this morning, school administrators were on the roads checking the conditions and areas around the schools. With the possibility of more snow and blowing conditions expected throughout the rest of the day, the school system announced the closing to all of the parents through an automated message system just before 6:00 a.m.

“It`s not something that happens frequently, relative to some other locations in the country. On the other hand, any time we start to get concerns about safety, we want to make the right decision for safety`s sake knowing it`s an inconvenience to people for us not to have school and we`re sensitive to that. But, safety of course, has to come first,” said Assistant Superintendent Dr. Jeffrey Holm.

Students and faculty will make up today on April 2, which was a built in day.
