Chancellor Buyout Heads to the House | Video

Jessica Roose | 3/2/2013

Last week members in the Senate passed a bill that included an amendment to buy out the contract for the Chancellor of the North Dakota University System. As lawmakers enter crossover next week, the House will eventually take up that bill for consideration. House Majority Leader Al Carlson says they will need to have a major discussion to decide if spending over $850,000 on the buyout is something that should be done.

"We`ve had a lot of discussions about past college presidents that we`ve bought out. So I would think that you need to first talk about the policy and then then decide whether or not that`s something that`s a use of taxpayer dollars when you`re all done."

The Senate had originally voted down the amendment but then brought it back up and passed it the next day.
