Federal Housing Assistance Could be at Risk | Video

Julie Leonardi | 3/1/2013

The Sequester is supposed to take effect Friday, which could put a lot of federal agencies in financial trouble, including federal housing assistance. Some families could lose these benefits, former homeless individuals and veterans could be removed from their current housing. Minot homeless shelters are full as it is, so any type of cut can impact these individuals.

Karrie Libke, Minot Area Homeless, said, “If vouchers are lost and people are no longer able to have that opportunity to get affordable housing, if they can find it, and they`re on the street, that already puts a burden on a heavily burden system where the shelters exist.”

The federal agencies that could be affected by this are still speculating what cuts they will see.
